Latest News

LTF now have a beta version of the EX12 and have a sample PD-6 with the 9056 internal hard drive fitted. 9056 drives will be available as standard in new machines supplied from early August onwards and at the same time will also be available as an upgrade to existing LTF-UK users machines at a nominal fitting cost.

EX12 Docking Station

The EX12 is the ideal partner for the Fostex PD-6 DVD-RAM when used stationary or "on-cart" providing extended recording time, multiple media choices, automated background mirroring and power supply options.

EX12 DockingPD-6 "docks" to the EX12 via the dedicated expansion connector on its base and is securely attached by locking "arms" on both sides. Once connected, the operator now has a choice of three (or four if 9056 internal hard drive is fitted to the PD-6) recording mediums: a 12cm "full size" DVD-RAM drive, a 40GB hard disk drive and the PD-6's 8cm "mini" DVD-RAM drive.

Choosing one of the media as the primary recording drive then allows the operator to copy files/takes and/or duplicate "disks" between the other and vice-a-versa. When using the 40GB hard disk drive as the primary recording medium, it is further possible to set the EX12 to automatically "mirror" files/takes to the 12cm DVD-RAM drive in the background meaning that at the end of a day's shooting, the DVD-RAM can be handed off to the cutting rooms almost immediately while a duplicate set of files/takes is held on the hard disk drive until deleted by the operator.

The 40GB hard disk is conveniently supplied in 4.7GB partitions, matching the size of a single-sided 12cm DVD-RAM disk. The EX12 also features both IEEE1394 "Firewire" and USB2.0/1.1 ports which allows PC and MAC access to the 12cm DVD-RAM drive as an "external" device. While files/takes can be recorded directly to the internal 40GB hard drive if selected as the primary recording medium, files/takes need to be then transferred to either the EX12's DVD-RAM or the PD-6's DVD-RAM in order to export them. This can be done automatically in the background or as a batch process as previously mentioned.

The EX12 can be powered by either mains AC or a 12v DC source and also features a 12v DC output for powering the docked PD-6 through the EX12, alleviating the need for multiple power supplies. Measuring 2U high, the EX12 can be fitted with supplied "rack ears" if so desired for rack-mounting into a flight-cased cart or for edit suite/cutting-room use.

9056 Internal Hard Drive

With the Model 9056 fitted to a PD-6, the operator now has a choice of two primary recording mediums: a 40GB internal hard disk drive or the standard 8cm "mini" DVD-RAM drive providing for extended recording time and dual-copy redundancy.

Fostex 9056 Internal Hard DriveFormatted in 1.46GB partitions, the 40GB internal hard disk drive essentially holds twenty-seven 8cm DVD-RAM side's-worth of audio files/takes. Choosing either the hard drive or the DVD-RAM as the primary recording drive allows the operator to copy files/takes and/or duplicate "disks" between each other.

Furthermore, when selecting the 40GB internal hard disk drive as the primary recording media, it is possible to set the PD-6 to automatically "mirror" files/takes to the 8cm DVD-RAM drive in the background. This means that at the end of a day's shooting, the DVD-RAM can be handed off to the cutting rooms almost immediately while a duplicate set of files/takes are held on the internal hard disk drive until deleted by the operator.

While files/takes can be recorded directly to the internal 40GB hard drive if selected as the primary recording medium, files/takes need to be then transferred to the PD-6's DVD-RAM in order to export them. This can be done automatically in the background or as a batch process as previously mentioned.

MAIN FEATURES

  • Internal 40GB hard disk drive (1.8")
  • Formatted in twenty-seven 1.4GB partitions
  • File/take copy and disk duplicate functions between drivesGo to Top of Page
  • Background mirror setting from 40GB hard disk to 8cm DVD-RAM drive
