FOSTEX FR-2 - WHAT IS NEEDED TO GET IT ON THE ROAD? As supplied the basic machine has no power source; therefore it requires either internal batteries, an external battery or an external mains power adaptor. Also offered is a starter pack comprising machine UK mains power supply AD12-1300 and Fostex soft carry case. INTERNAL BATTERIES Fostex specify 8 x AA size NiMH rechargeable batteries and these and suitable chargers can be sourced from Eurobatteries, Maplin, RS and similar companies. EXTERNAL BATTERIES Fostex are quite specific about the requirements of a 12V source and as yet we have built up no in-field experience. LTF therefore recommend Hawk-Woods NP-29 NiCad or NP1H NiMh batteries (12V) with a Hawk-Woods Power Adaptor such as a NPB/C SQN2S plus an adaptor cable from 4-way Hirose to coaxial power plug to feed the FR-2. For a combination of maximum recording time and lowest weight LTF recommend Hawk-Woods NP-65 LiIon. As these batteries produce 14.4V, a regulated adaptor such as Hawk-Woods NPR SQN4S should be used plus an adaptor cable from 4-way Hirose to coaxial power plug to feed the FR-2.
